Can you believe I have been knitting since 2005 and have never been to a fiber festival? Over the years I have seen folks in the Carolinas talk about SAFF and Carolina FiberFest but I have yet to make it to any fiber fair... until this past weekend! My husband happened to be looking for something else and came across the Southern Comforts Fiber Market. I didn't waste a moment buying two tickets - one for myself and one for my crochet-addicted kid. Tickets were $5 each and parking was free.
We couldn't make it on Friday but were there just after 10 am on Saturday. I used to live and work in that area but was never aware of the Oasis Shriner's Auditorium. I found it pretty easily and parking was plentiful.

We walked in, gave them our tickets and got our hands stamped (you could come and go as much as you wanted during the market hours) and began to make the rounds. Everyone was so helpful and friendly and we enjoyed chatting with everyone. I learned about a new kind of wool (I've unfortunately already forgotten the name) and got to see everything from yarn to roving to stitch markers and other supplies. After we went around to check out all the vendors, I decided I wanted 2 skeins of yarn and a pair of pants for each of us. Then we went back around to make our purchases.

I should be getting some type of award for self-restraint because I would have loved to have bought yarn from every vendor there. I love my pants - they are so soft and flowy! I made sure to get their card in case we want more pants.
We didn't stay long, maybe a couple hours, and we didn't look for the consignment sale or go to any of the available classes. If you have facebook, check them out here. I think they did such an amazing job promoting their vendors and you should be able to find them there as well.
Would I go again? Absolutely! I am already looking forward to next year!
